Fall Leaves Banner

While I am admittedly not a huge ‘crafter’, I do like to indulge every now and then. When I found out I was apart of the Home Depot Style Challenge I was so excited! I was first assigned to do our Dining Room, which I love because I adore that room.  And then something happened in Phoenix that never does- it rained.  And it rained, and rained and rained.  So much so that we got a huge leak happening in our dining room ceiling…about two weeks before the Home Depot challenge was due!  I naturally freaked out, but luckily they were so sweet and let me switch to doing our DIY mantel.  Once I knew I was doing the mantel I knew a new Fall banner was in order.  I still love my Harvest one from a few years back, but it will be put up in our dining room this year.  I wanted something to go with a different color palette than my old one.

This banner could have been worlds faster to make if I owned a fancy Silhouette or Cricut machine, but alas I do not.  It still was a super simple process and didn’t take much time at all.  Here is all the supplies I used:

-Cardboard for the letters

-Sharpie or some sort of pen to trace out the letters

-Hot glue gun to glue the leaves

-Pack of fake leaves. I loved the colors of this set, but if you are looking for more oranges and reds, then this is the best set.

-Twine or string of some sort.

To start I printed out my letters in a basic and bold font.  Use whatever font you like, but keep it simple and more block like than anything else.

Once I traced out all the letters, I cut them out {which I got a freaking blood blister from doing so. See why I need a Silhouette or Cricut?!}. Then it was time for the creativity to come in.  I will admit, I spent way more time than necessary arranging the leaves just how I wanted them.  I wanted most of the leaves to be a full wrap around, while leaving some to be sprawled out on the letter.  However you like it, just glue them down:

To attach mine to the twine I simply glued the twine on the back.  No measuring out for spacing or anything technical like that, just eyeball it:)

And thats that!  Super easy and I love that this banner is so durable because of the thick cardboard and resilient leaves.  I also added a little bit of fun touches on the end to help hide the tape:
