Kitchen Makeover: Apron/Farmhouse Sink

So did you know that I have no clue about some things? Actually, about a lot of things. One being- what the heck is the official name of these sinks? Apron, Farmhouse, I have no clue! Either way, I love them a lot, like almost as much as I love Dairy Queen banana split sundaes with only the ice cream, banana, and hot fudge! {I totally am not eating one as I type this, absolutely not…}

There were things about the kitchen that I wasn’t crazy opinionated about, but one thing that I absolutely had to have, was a sink like this one. We are going to fit a water filter under the sink so that our drinking water is as good as it possibly can be. Read this best under sink water filter article before purchasing, if you are interested in doing the same as us. Anyway, the sink is stupidly more expensive than normal drop in sinks, but oh so pretty!

We got ours at Home Depot for $695, and considering the prices of others, ours wasn’t that bad. And again, we used the 10% coupon. The dimensions are 29 3/4 in X 17 7/8 in. so she’s a big one:) Here she is:

So excited, I even gave it two thumbs up-yep, i’m that cheesy
I mainly wanted the farmhouse sink for the look, BUT I also specifically wanted a single bowl one with no divider for a big reason. I will now finally be able to soak pots and pans of any size flat in the sink, which was impossible with our old sink. You should have seen the piles of dishes I would stack to make it so that pans could lie flat in the sink to soak. Doing dishes can be hectic sometimes, but one has to be prudent in the measures they need to take care of their sink and the drain it is connected to. You definitely would not want your sink to be blocked and flood your kitchen now, would you? It could be in cases like this that you need to know the smaller hacks in life like how to get something out of sink drain or how to unclog it โ€“ dishes and remaining food could often be a pain when left for too long! That said, I also don’t do many dishes by hand, so I never used the divider as a benefit for soaking on one side and rinsing on the other.

We are also going to under-mount the sink, so it will be so easy to simply wipe the mess from counters into the sink! I think I will die and go to heaven with that feature!
Anyone out there have a farmhouse/apron/farmer/whatever the crap you wanna call it sink? Are you in as much love as I think I will be?! Any tips or tricks with them? Happy weekend everyone!!
<3,
Adri

    If you love it more than Dairy Queen it must be really good. I’m a double cookie dough chocolate blizzard girl, but I get you on the banana split ๐Ÿ™‚

    Oh lady, I feel you. I don’t have one yet, but when we do our kitchen overhaul this spring, I WILL have Ikea’s super affordable farmhouse sink. I. Can’t. Wait.

    It is beautiful. I love the single bowl. Hubby found a Kohler white farmhouse sink on CL for $50 and we had to get it. But, it has the divider and 2 sides. It’s not the ideal, but we couldn’t pass it up. I hope you’ll share how you like it when it’s installed. I’d love a single basin at some point.

    I love them too! Almost as much as DQ GA Mud Fudge Blizzards – or any other kinda Blizzard. I think Blizzards + Barberitos got us through our first home reno. {We’re now on the second house.}
    We call them farmhouse sinks and we’re totally getting another one for reno #2 – we got a double bowl from Ikea for around $350. {The hubbs wanted double, I wanted single – he does the dishes, so there you go}. They’re not on the Ikea website, but they’re in the catalog, and you can order them by phone, or in store.
    So glad to have found your blog!

    LOVE farmhouse sinks!

    Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that IKEA has discontinued the Domsjo sink because I haven’t seen it on their website in awhile. ๐Ÿ™

    Pretty much my only shot at ever convincing the husband that we NEED one! Unless I can get as lucky as Kim did & find one on CL!

    Adrianne – they do have a single bowl one, even cheaper!
    Erin – we ‘liked to had a heart attack’ cuz we thought the Domsjo was a goner – but the Hubbs called and they have plenty in stock in stores and through the catalog. They *said* they have no plans to discontinue.
    They can never take away that sink – never! I lurve it too much. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Bunny! We just called about the single bowl one{hoping to save some $$} but they said it’s only 24 wide, and were wanting a 30wide! And since it’s porcelain instead of fireclay- we both feel more safe {with how much I ban pots and pans around} with a more sturdy material. Thanks so much though!

    This sink looks amazing but unfortunately this sink doesn’t match with the design of my house.
