Tips On Choosing A Paint Color

Hi friends! I know you might be a little tired of hearing about painting..BUT I found a website that I am now obsessed with for choosing paint colors and thought I would share. DecorPad is my new best friend! It is amazing because you can choose a color and they show tons of pictures of real-life rooms in that color. When you select a photo is also shows exactly what paint color that person used. When you think you found a gray you might like you can then select that color and it pulls up all other rooms painted in that color. See why i’m obsessed? It gives you such a great example of what the colors look like in real-life. If you are thinking about painting the outside of your home you may want to contact professionals like Mt Hood Pro Painting and see how they can assist you with the exterior.

I found two grays I really liked on the site and got samples of them quick! Did you know that Home Depot can get you {almost} any brand or color regardless if its the brand/colors they display? Love it! I got a sample of Benjamin Moore’s Stonington Gray {not to be confused with other brands stonington gray, which they accidentally made me two gallons of:/} and Valspar’s Bonsai. RULE NUMBER ONE: ALWAYS TRY OUT A SAMPLE BEFORE PAINTING A ROOM. ALWAYS. Wanna see why?

That top swatch of paint is the Bonsai color. The shade on the left is what the paint looked like on the sample, while the paint was still wet. The shade on the right is the color once it fully dried. SO much darker. I am so glad we always get samples because the dried gray was entirely too dark. The middle color is the Stonington. The bottom shade was just a light gray sample we had laying around {can’t remember the color..sorry!} Guess what one we went with…

Stonington it is! The gray is perfect. Not too dark, and it feels warm even though its a ‘cool’ color. We went around and painted the three colors all over the house before finally choosing the right one, even had both of our families over on Friday night with all the swatches painted:) They’re used to our house being a work in progress..

Love me some hubby<3

Honey and Boomer definitely helped in the process. Honey helped by overseeing the work from her favorite spot in the house, the same spot that she gets yelled at every time she’s on, because she shouldn’t be!

Boomer helped by totally eating just chewing on the used up rolls of Frog Tape.
We amazingly got it all finished in a matter of 7 hours. Hooray!! How embarrassing is it that my inner thighs were totally sore the day after from getting on and off a chair to paint. Man- I suck! Anyway, I hope to have some AFTER photos of the kitchen and the new color all throughout by Friday! Can I get a what-what?!?! What?
<3,
Adri

Love your choice of grey. Can wait to see photos!

I painted my dining, living and hallway Creek Bend by Behr and LOVE. It’s got some brown in it so it’s a warm grey. We are going to go a shade or two darker for the bath, master bed and kitchen.

Great painting tips! I love gray walls, but am disappointed with how the gray turned out in my bedroom, so I’m always looking for different and pretty grays!

I also see you live in Phoenix. I moved here last year and love it. I’m glad to have another “local” blog to read!
