Choosing A Shade Of Tan

Guess what guys..remember when I said I would have a full tutorial on painting stripes this week, and now its Thursday and there still hasn’t been one? Ya, me too. Its because for the life of me I cannot chose a tan {ish} color. We initally went to HD knowing what colors we wanted, because we loved the look of Lettered Cottages old reading room.
via Lettered Cottage

Home Depot is usually amazing at being able to produce other brands {other than their own Behr, Glidden, etc.} from their computer database. The night we went in to get the two colors LC used, the guy said he couldn’t find them on the computer. I had never worked with this guy before, which is totally weird because I think i’ve worked with every Home Depot paint guy there is! I didn’t think that he was using the same search method as the other guys usually do {because I always tend to be a pain and not want the normal brands} AND I even told J that I thought he was doing it wrong. J thinks i’m HD crazy, so he ignored my plea to ask again!

Well now its been a week, a different shade of white, and 3 sample shades of tan later. You want to know the best part? I went back yesterday again because I didn’t end up liking the sample I bought {crazy how different a color can look on walls depending on if its daytime or night. For this color, day=I LOVE IT, night= IT LOOKS LIKE BABY CRAP}. When I went back in yesterday one of my normal buddies was there so I just asked him if he could look it up for me, since I had a weird feeling that the other guy was an idiot not informed how to do it properly:) Sure enough, there was Natural Choice by Sherwin Williams. Clear as day, I might add. So now, I am just waiting on Js final say, because I despise picking a paint color without his input as well. Hopefully he will come home and say he’s madly in love with it, and I will get these freaking stripes finished and have a tutorial for y’all ASAP. Here is the current state of the office:

What do you guys think? Is the Sherwin Williams Natural Choice a winner based on these photos? Would love your feedback.

Adri

I really like the SW shade but I also like the ‘cozy cottage’ but I did LOL when I read ‘Baby crap’ at night lol. Seriously? That would for sure be a deal breaker, but the SW is a really nice cooling and calm color!

    Have a great day!

haha yes! cozy cottage is baby crap at night, and cigarette yellow by day – for anyone who’s lived in a smoked in house.

Definitely go with SW! I like the pink undertones.

By the way, I just discovered your blog on Monday, and I. Am. Obsessed! My husband and I are looking for a house, and we know that whatever we choose will need to work incorporate our personality. Oddly enough – we love 99% of what you guys did. And I say oddly because my husband and I are considered eclectic in comparison to our friends and family 😉 Keep up the great work, I can’t wait to see the finished result here!

We JUST {as in last week… just} painted the exterior trim of our house Natural Choice. I spent a LONG time and several test spots of various colors across our garage door. I liked this the best, because it was bright, fresh, airy, but yet calm in ALL light. And not yellow or pink… I DID NOT want a yellow or pink undertone. Winner for us!

Hope whatever you choose will work out for your likes. The reading room is awesome!

My first time commenting on your blog. But I think the Natural Choice is by far the “Natural choice”. It looks like it will be perfect for stripes!

I like Natural Choice too! A few years ago we bought paint at HD and it was called pony tail- it was a perfect neutral for everything.

    Kasey-
I initially LOVED cozy cottage, but it truly looks like baby crap at night. So crazy how lighting can shift something SO much!
Nicole- Thank you so much! Im so glad you found us, and hope that some of our trial and error runs can help prevent mistakes for you guys! Good luck on the house:)
Timeless- So random that you just did that!! Yes, i love the udnertones in the SW one. The Cozy cottage had a weird green undertone-def.not what I like.
Rachel- Thanks for taking the time to comment! I love to hear from people:):) Yes, lets hope its the natural choice:)
Jenni- We like the seaside sand, but unfortunately its too light. Like so light that at times you cant really see it at all:(
Rachel- thanks for the color tip. Always love having go-to colors!

I am in love with Natural Choice. I first saw it on the Lettered Cottage and emailed back and forth with Layla about it. She said that it was just the right amount of neutral that it would pick up cool tones or warm tones depending on what other colors you put in a room. This is a 100% true statement. I have painted my living room and part of my master bedroom in Natural Choice and it is fantastic. Haven’t regretted it once.

Love this post, and the colors. Out of curiosity, what are the dimensions of this room?
