I love a great DIY project, I love pretty jewelry (who doesn’t want a 22k gold chain in their jewelry box?) , and I especially love when I can mesh the two together, it sets off that DIY feeling inside of me. A couple months ago, I had a friend link up an Etsy shop on my Facebook, and ever since I knew I just had to do this project DIY style instead of buying one.
Here is what I started with:
We obviously have a thing for printer drawers {see here} so when J got this one at a garage sale for only $3 {RULE #1:you can’t willingly pay full price at a garage sale} I knew instantly it was going to become my jewelry display!
I simply bought some small hooks at Home Depot, a pack of 8 for $1 something, and used just over 4 packs..a whopping total of about $6. I really break the bank don’t I?! I didn’t like that the hooks were shiny silver so applied a quick coat of my best friend, spray paint. PS- I didn’t choose this particular brand or color for a reason, it’s just what we already had..again, breaking the bank!
This is the part that my incredible handy-ness came into action. {Please keep in mind, I did this while J was at school, which means I didn’t have anyone telling me that I was probably doing it in the most complicated, unnecessary way, ever}. To get those little hooks in I used this messed up method, that worked beautifully for me:)
- Mark off each spot where you want the hook to go using a pencil
- Hammer in the 3/4 drill bit
- Hammer in the small drill bit
- Twist the hook in by hand
- Laugh out loud at yourself because you just used the most random method ever to make this work
Yes, my method might be random. Yes, I am not handy myself- it usually is J. Yes, I have a new jewelry display that I love:
Have you ever DIY’ed a jewelry display as well? If so, link it up in the comments so I can see!!
<3,
Adri
PS- I linked this up with my favorite parties!

Love it. Very cute and creative. I’ve never seen one of those printer drawers before. I will have to keep my eye out.

That’s a great idea for jewelry display! I have way too many earrings, otherwise it’d be fun to try to make one. This is what I came up with last November for my jewelry display-need: http://grantedgrace.blogspot.com/2010/11/project-jewelry-frames.html

So pretty! Great job! ๐
karen @ our slo house says
It’s beautiful. Did all of your earrings really fit, or do you have extras waiting for another jewelry tray? ๐

Omg! I love this! How in the world do you come up with this stuff?! Lol. So creative and it looks beautiful!

I need to know where you go to these garage sales!!!

Thanks guys!! Jana- I love what you did! I left a comment on your page:)
Karen-sadly,yes. I’m not a big jewelry person… I like to have a couple favorites and just work with those. Haha
Meg-lately most sales have just been in our neighborhood (Arcadia). It helps when all homes around you are old-because they usually have rad old stuff!! And that first big one I found was at Savers!!

I saw those on Etsy as well a while back. I already had one of the drawers sitting around my house trying to figure out what to do with it. When I saw those on Etsy I decided to try it too. I love how it turned out. I do have a blog but I made the display a while before I started my blog so I don’t even have a post of it on my blog to link to! Maybe I’ll put it up on the blog later in the week and link it up then. Yours turned out great!

I loved this cute idea! My mom made me the best earring holder for Christmas- She got a large embroidery hoop, spray painted it white, and put tulle in the frame, pulling it at tight as possible. Instant earrings organizer!
Not nearly as nostalgic as yours, but it holds over 50 pairs and sits so nicely on my wall as I’m dasing out.
Eates-A-Lot says
Thanks for that.. I bought 2 huge painters trays for that… but I stopped just short of putting the hooks in!
Here’s what I made instead:

Adri – you have got some style, girl! Your beautiful jewelry choices seriously make this a fantastic display. And it looks amazing! I LOVE it and I’m also a bit jealous because you would never find a printer drawer that cheap where I live.
Weirdly (and random)…I know someone named Adriana and she is married to a Jeramy. Not quite the same but I just had to share. ๐
And since I DIY everything, I of course have tried the jewelry display too. Lovely of you to ask!

Mrs. Means- you should at least take some photos of your finished project so I can see!!
Sarah- genius idea! If only I had 50 earrings..sigh!
Eates- I love your one with the wire hanging! I bet you can fit so much stuff on it! Nice work!
Ashley- we usually go around Arcadia in Phoenix.
Mrs. April- why thank you:)
Molly- HOW RANDOM!! different spellings, but still so similar! I wish you could find one cheap near you. You can use them for so many things. Love your own one!

I have looked for jewelry display solutions for nearly a year now. I’ve tried several things, none that I loved. THIS is PERFECT for me. I have a much smaller organizer like this (not a printer’s drawer, but some nick-knack shadowbox that hung in my great grandma’s house) that I stuff in a drawer to sort out my jewelry. this is much better, but I bet mine’s too small. time to watch out for a printer’s drawer!
Nicolette @ Momnivore's Dilemma says
That is an amazing organizer for $3! WOW!

I love and could definitely need this for my jewelry. I don’t have a proper place for my stuff. Most of the time it’s just lying around on my desk. Since my mom is pretty unhappy about it I will consider making my own display.
