In a couple of months we have something exciting happening to us and our home..and because of it- it has sent us into full gear. We have known for a long time that there were many rooms that either needed to be finished/started/changed, but have been putting them off. Well now, things are changing- and fast! My main concern with whenever we have to do things fast, is that we don’t end up getting our normal deals, or end up with something that we don’t totally love. So far, we doing great!
One room that has bugged me for awhile is our bathroom. I was pretty over the blue paint, and everything else didn’t go together at all. We have a vanity with a black granite top, a brown bath mat, tan and brown towels, and blue paint..so cohesive;) We finally got around to making it flow, and it started with the paint!
This is our blue paint, that I loved at the time, then it got old..real quick:
I wanted something lighter, something a little more neutral- but not tan, or gray. When it comes to painting in our home, there are very set rules. J does the taping, I do the painting and touchups. He helps with the painting too, but I do the touch ups. I suck at taping, and he doesn’t notice all the little mistakes like I do. It works for us:)Another rule is that if we are painting a room that has crown {which almost all do- we love our moudling} you have to paint the area where the crown and new paint color meet with a fresh coat of white. This makes it so you have crisp white lines no matter what!
We chose our paint color based off of a bath mat we found at Marshalls {I love Marshalls}. And don’t worry, were not naive in thinking that we will always have this mat {I did buy two just in case though} we made sure the color isn’t so weird that it wont be able to go with future mats! Side note: I don’t have a color name because they simply ‘color matched’ it to the rug, but if someone really likes the color, I can give you the #s of it.
Honey gave the rug and paint her kiss of approval:) |
And here it is:
I don’t have full shots of the bathroom yet, because we are still waiting for our shower curtain to arrive. Yes, you heard me right. We have lived in this house for 2 1/2 years and have never had more than a liner for our shower! Anyone else do that? I’m excited to show y’all the rest of the changes coming up! Also, I don’t know if I tell y’all this enough, but man I seriously feel like I have the best readers/friends out there. Thank you guys for always being so supportive, encouraging, and honest!

Taping is tiring but its worth when you get the new paint color on the walls and you’re happy. And yes, painting the endless moulding after is a must!

this is going to sound crazy but I had that rug in my cart at TJ Maxx two weeks ago and put it back. I loved it, simple stripes and colors. LOL

We are re-doing our bathroom and I was thinking about blue, but now I’m kinda thinking about apricot, which is so far from blue I’m doubting my whole color scheme – haha! Love your color! Also looking forward to the curtain!
Have you ever read Sink Reflections?? Crazy, but it is changing my life in many ways seemingly unrelated to clutter & house cleaning. . .

Lisa- yes, worth it. Yes, paint in the butt!
Sue- so glad you found us!!! You are so welcome, keep checking back for more:)
Ashley- thanks! Excited to show it off!
Tasha- GREAT minds think alike:):)
Leah-thanks girl!
Ahsley-thanks! And ?? have you had that color for a long time now? Are you still loving it as much as you did day one?
Coley-your cute! thanks!
Pine tree-thank you, glad you found us!! Our curtain go in today, but i need to hem it-so hopefully next week it will be up and running:)
Kristi-Oo i love apricot. The ONLY thing I will say though is that if the bathroom isnt large enough, and the paint is on all the wall {ie-not covered half way up with beadboard} then that orange of a color can send a serious glow out onto the bedroom. Trust me, I did it with our guest bathroom! And we had an orange glowing hallway for months until I repainted it. No, I havent read that…maybe ill pick it up! Thanks!

OOooh I can’t wait to find out what the exciting thing is, that is going to happen to you, that is causing you to get busy on your home, and paint pretty colors.
How’s that for a run on sentence? That’s what excitement does to a person! Running on, and stuff.

I love the tip of painting the white line under the moulding, especially since I have a painting job to tackle this weekend. Thanks Girl!

hey adri!
have you ever thought of doing a blog with all the name/brand paint colors you and J have used in your house? I’m having to go through all your previous blogs to find the kitchen/living room color… not an easy task but I’ll find it! But I totally think listing your recent bathroom, kitchen, office etc color would be good since a lot of people love your house! =)
