Taking Our Marriage To A New Level

Tomorrow morning marks a new journey for Jeremy and me…we are sharing a closet..for the first time EVER. You see, I have a little problem with hoarding. I hoard clothes. I love buying clothes, and I hate getting rid of clothes, which leaves me with mass amount of clothes. I love this though because I have ‘something’ for any and ALL occasions. Because I have always been like this, and because J loves me for who I am, he has always been willing to use a closet in another room for his clothes. Even in our apartment with our huge walk in closet, he still used the 2nd bedrooms closet! But lets be honest, its a problem, especially now. I’m not saying that we’ll have to look at an Online Counselling Australia clinic for help (although relationship therapy is seen as a good idea), but it is a large step for us to take and we’ll need some time getting used to it. With us starting to work on the nursery soon {considering we now have under 4 months until he is here..WHAT!?} J needed to move his clothes out of the future nursery. We have some amazing plans for the nursery closet space..I cannot wait to show y’all.

This was my closet:

Yep, I easily filled up both of those closets. And I have a dresser. And I was totally content not getting rid of anything. BUT things had to change…so yesterday I went to work. I even got rid of some of my precious jeans, I am a total jean snob.

I ended up getting rid of three whole trash bags of clothes. Two are going to Goodwill/Savers, one I am taking to My Sisters Closet, in hopes of getting some money back.

Its amazing just how many freaking hangers you can have extra once you get rid of things. No longer will I be scrounging around in hopes that there is one extra laying on the ground somewhere.

The funny thing is, I thought I would hate this day of getting rid of clothes..but it actually felt good. Especially because there were some items that just needed to go, due to wear, size, practicality, or just flat out ugliness. Lets see, this shirt below was bought by my parents for me..when I was a Freshmen in HS:

This shirt, I bought my freshmen year of college, back when I apparently thought lingerie looking tops were all the rage:
This hat, my sweet sweet hubby bought for me while I was in college. I loved it so much back then, but now it just reminds me of Easter:

Now these shoes hurt the heart a little. I recently bought them at Last Chance and I love them. I however thought that by buying a shoe with such a high arch, I would magically be able to walk amazing in them. I am NOT a high-heel girl, I just plain ol’ walk terrible in them. These babies are going to My Sisters Closet.

Anyways, now that you have seen some of my embarrassing clothes that should have been tossed years ago, you should be proud of me. I got rid of enough clothes that I was able to move all of my clothes to one side of my closet, and all of Js to the other.

We.Are.Sharing.Closets.

I think our marriage just went to a whole new level.

Any advice on how to not lose my cool when I see that he has left all of his clothes and shoes scattered everywhere?! Im used to having his mess contained in his closet room, and now it will be in my closet space. Oh the joys of releasing a ‘my space’ to ‘our space’!

Hehe. I made sure when we set up our bedroom that his side of the bed was the side away from the door. That way, when he leaves a mess it can be contained on his side of the bed & isn’t visible from the doorway, which makes me be able to pretend it’s not there. Also, I have a hamper right next to his closet, he used to have a collapsible one there, and that did not work at all, but now we have a nice sturdy one & it’s going better.

    Hahahah this is awesome!

What size are those shoes?! I’d totally buy them from you!

Good luck with the new adventure, I’m sure you’ll do great ๐Ÿ™‚

We aren’t there yet… ๐Ÿ™‚ I have the huge walk-in-closet all to myself, and my hubby got the sliding door closet. He’s fine with his space, but I definitely have gotten out of control in my closet. I need to do some major cleaning out as well! haha I think I may or may not also have some lingerie looking tops from college somewhere in there. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, bless your heart. Sharing a closet is no fun!

I also have several of those lingerie-like tops left over from college. What were we thinking?!

I was lucky growing up that I was the only girl and never had to share a room, clothing, closet or dresser space with anyone! When my hubby and I first moved into together we were using my bedroom furniture. I literally cried when I had to give him half of MY dresser…haha we laugh about it now, but it is hard giving up that space, since us gals need so much more of it!

I could not focus on the point of your post… I was too distracted by those floors. I love, love them!

Oh my goodness, we are opposites, I own three pairs of jeans (would like to own more) but I do have quite a lot of high heels (I TOTALLY AM a high heel girl, have been wearing them since I was 14) would walk the dog in them if I didn’t feel silly, even do waxing, standing up at work in heels quite happily, much to the amazement of some of my coworkers.
