Iron Crib It Is!!

Words cannot even begin to describe just how excited J and I are about the crib we got this weekend. We had been on the hunt for one for a few months now, but not stressed because we knew we had time. Technically we could have even held off for a little while longer, but when we saw this one- we couldn’t pass it up. We ended up having to go all the way to Tucson to get it {about 1 1/2 hrs. away}. Most sane people would have just kept up their search on their local Craigslist {Phoenix} but we had been doing that for awhile now, with no results. There would be a crib that we loved and it would have sold within .25 seconds of it being listed. OR even worse, we were using this site called Picclick.com that is a really easy way to search CL, eBay, and Etsy. Instead of all the postings from those sites because long sentences, or barely a thumbnail of a photo until you click through, Picclick shows a rather large photo from the get-go. We were loving using this site, until..until we realized that for some reason not everything would always end up on the site that was actually on CL,etc. SO we missed out on one amazing crib that was only $350 AND right down the street from us. Bummer! 

Anyways, the crib we ended up with is everything we were looking for. We needed it to be a darker color {since the wall it will be against will be all white..details to come}. We needed it to NOT have the canopy poles, or at least have them be removable, since if they were on it they would be right in your face when you walk in the room. We wanted it to look antique, but not being an actual antique one {since the safety standards are always changing, the antique ones have huge spaces between each bar..not ok}. And finally, we wanted to love the look of it in general. So without further ado, here is our crib:

The people we bought it from were the original owners and they bought it about 5 years ago from USA baby in Tucson, paying $1,200 for it!! We paid them $400!! They used it for all three of their kids, and the crib still looks brand spanking new, which is the beauty of iron cribs. The crib is the brand ChildCraft, which no longer makes iron cribs, but from all of our research, its not because something went wrong, but instead because they are focusing more on wooden cribs now. Now I know some of you will think we are crazy for spending $400 on a crib, but here are our reasons why:

  1. It is incredible quality, solid iron. Meaning..it lasts for freaking ever!
  2. It will 100% be able to be used with all 1,000,000 kids we plan on having
  3. It will then be able to be resold at either the price we paid for it, or a little lower {because these cribs show no wear and tear, unlike wood cribs}
  4. It has a look that is not only gender neutral, but is more sophisticated than most cribs
  5. We just love it

If you doubt at all that we will be able to sell it for a price of $400 or a little less, just go ahead and search iron cribs online right now. Unless it is one that is a true antique {and not up to any safety standards} they all sell for $300 and UP. And I mean WAY UP!

Overall, we are so stinkin excited about having it. The drive to Tucson was actually kind of nice for us to have time to just talk and be away from all distractions. The crib is exactly what we were looking for, and we couldn’t be happier.

Here are some fun terrible because it was 11pm shots of J and I putting the crib back together. You would think because we are DIYers that we would have paid attention to how the crib was put together when we got it from the family, but nooo. We just were so excited that we broke that bad boy down, and when it came to putting it back together it was quite amusing. There was a lot of “Does this screw go there, do you remember?” “Oh wait, no thats TOTALLY backwards”..

The dogs were so confused as to what was going on, but of course had to be in the middle of it all;)

 Yep, those are my hands. Fancy huh? I will spare you all a photo with my face included. This preggo girl doesn’t look too hot on a Sunday night at 11pm:)

We hope you love it as much as we do, or at least understand why the heck we love it so much! Hooray for the blessing of babies and the fact that our house now has a CRIB in it…meaning we are actually going to have a baby living here..say what?!?!

    That is a gorgeous crib. Who cares if someone doesn’t like how much you paid for! As long as you and J like it, that’s all that matters! 🙂 Enjoy it!

    $400 isn’t bad at all! We paid $250 plus tax for just a normal cheap wood one at Target, and it already looks beat up after just one year, so I think $400 is an amazing price! I love how it looks against that pic on the wall!

    It is very lovely! So glad you found it. When my now 15 year old daughter was a toddler we splurged (a bit more than we probably should have) on a very pretty, cream iron bed for her, but I just had to have it. I still love it, might be my favourite item of furniture in the house. She, however, now wants a full sized bed not a twin (I am European, teens do NOT need full sized beds):) and she thinks it is quaint and dated and doesn’t like it anymore! WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER, developing opinions and tastes of her own of ALL THINGS! Especially when that opinion is against that PERFECT bed. Oh well, you won’t have that problem, babies don’t care about such things. But beware, they do turn into teens . . but by then he will have out grown it and passed the crib on to future babies!:-)

    What a beautiful crib. Makes me what to have a baby at 49….lol And my husband and I have driven farther for less. What a lucky baby and all those to come.

    YAY! We are seriously so happy that you all love it as much as we do!! I was a little nervous at the response we would get just because it is definitely not the ‘typical’ crib.
    Renewed upona dream-that is so crazy! I believe it though, because even though we find some here, its not often!
    Louise- Man, if only we could always influence their opinions, esp. on stuff that we know they will love and appreciate later! haha!

    I have this exact crib. It is absolutely gorgeous and we received countless compliments. I think I paid around $1,300 for it, but it is incredibly solid and,unlike wooden cribs, never showed any signs of wear and tear. I bought it for my daughter ten years ago and held onto it just in case I ever had another baby girl. Well, God has blessed us and I’m now pregnant with three baby girls! I can’t bear not using my iron crib, but I’m not willing to buy two more. Soooo which of the triplets will be the lucky one who gets to sleep in the beautiful iron crib? … What to do? What to do? LOL

    Hii. We bought this exact same crib but the lady didn’t have the instructions on how to assemble it . Could you guys help us out?

      Hi there! Unfortunately we dont have any instructions either, just figured it out ourselves. I am sorry I cant help more! Feel confident in the fact though that it is a fantastic crib, one that we will most likely use with every baby we have {and its already been used by the previous families four kids!} so durable!!

    I also have this crib with assembly directions that I want to sell. I absolutely love it but my son grew out of it a long time ago and it was hard to let go. The time has come if anyone is interested.

      Hi Jennifer- sorry for the delay. We havent had any issues at all with our crib! It is currently being used for our second baby now, and the people we bought it from used it for FOUR kids. It still works perfectly and looks brand new! Cant recommend it enough!

    I got this same crib. I was wondering if you took off the plastic pieces so that it wouldn’t have a drop side? Since they did recall all drop side cribs. In the pictures I didn’t see the plastic pieces for it unless it’s just hard to see in a picture.

      Hi Katrina,
      There are some plastic pieces on the crib, but regardless we dont use the drop side ever. We usually actually put that side on the back wall.

    I’m driving myself insane right about now, lol. My god mother bought this same exact crib for her son back in 2004, when i saw her sons nursery i made her promise to save this crib for me. I had a baby last year and she gave it to me :). Now that I’m due to have another baby I want to purchase the same exact crib so I can match their cribs in their room. Please let me know if you are selling. I’ve pretty much called everywhere looking for this crib and no luck, just photos that i’m finding on google from bloggers. This is crib is one of the most suffocated and yet so cute cribs I’ve seen. HELP!!!!!!!!
