New Office Cabinets and a Ryobi Giveaway

For the past few months we have been using our living room as storage, but as we have finished the fireplace and the rest of the room {oh yeah and we got the sweetest couch ever yesterday, we will show you some photo soon…..lets just say its a brass spark plug} we have had to clear out the room out.
One large piece of furniture that was in there was a 3 piece bookcase unit that J found on clist for $250.

This thing is massive and completes our goal of having built-ins on every wall of our house ;). To move this thing we had to separate the sections and move it in piece by piece. This could make an ideal cabinet for the office space. Please note that this is not the same as storage cabinets, and for that, you might have to contact reputed companies such as BIG Safety. You can, however, store everything in this cabinet, from old files to magazines and novels, as long as its revamping is completed soon. The cabinets fill the wall almost completely (there are about 6″ on each side and on top), J thought he was going to take the time and actually modify the cabinets so that they look built in, but after some thought and debate we don’t think it’s worth the effort right now. We will have to make some decisions about the crown and moulding in the room, but I am confident we will come up with something.

We know they don’t look like much right now, but when we are finished with them, they will be beauts! My vote is for them to be a dark navy in either semi or high gloss! We will leave the inside of the cabinets a dark walnut. I think that with some brass hardware would be magical in an office. I mean 27 glass sliding doors, come on! What do you think about them? Also, a little dilemma with that is the rug:

We love this rug in there. Its the perfect size, and just looks great. BUT I don’t really feel like a dark navy and the rug can go together. J agrees, so we don’t know what to do. We don’t want to get rid of the rug, but we both love the idea of navy! What would you do?

Once we got the cabinets in we saw that during the move some of the screws that hold the piece together had become loose and needed tightening, que Ryobi Tek4 Right Angle Driver to the rescue.     I see that you paint over the glass. Do you find it easier to razor blade it all off than to tape the glass off? I just did a door with 9 windows and it was a job to scrape the glass clean, but maybe taping is just as much work 🙂

      Hi Karen,
      We actually haven’t done any painting to them yet-that’s how we got them. We usually take the time though and tape off, not paint over the glass. It’s always a pain to tape-but even more of a pain to scrape:)

    I would make the rug work! I moved into a rental home with “sea foam green” wall-to-wall carpet (I know!! ugh), but didn’t want to change up the gray/cream vibe I had going with my rug sofa pillows, etc., so I now have a gray/cream/sea foam space and it looks great. I think with some thoughtful accessories, etc., you can make the two look great together.

    Go with Navy Green! There are very beautiful shades of green that can match the intensity of the blue you have in mind.
