Oh the first child’s nursery. You know, the room that is put together to perfection. The room that has every detail so thought out, every corner designed perfectly. The wall color has significance, the art is cohesive, the rug is fluffy and free of stain, you can have a lamp that is literally held up by gravity and could topple over with a hard wind….yep thats what the plan was.
And then you have that child, and for awhile it remains a room of perfection. And then the baby doesn’t solely use the room for the crib, but is now playing on the floor rug. And then the baby doesn’t just stay sitting perfectly on the one spot on the rug, but is now tempted to colors on the walls and push over “gravity lamp”. The baby also gets older, and grows out of a crib, but isn’t quite stable enough for a raised bed…so its a mattress on the floor for the time being. And that baby that used to sleep through anything, including the bright beautiful sun shining in the room, well that doesn’t happen. The rug is stained, the walls are messy, the bed looks like a prison cells sleeping quarters, and the room needs to be nearly pitch black in order for any sleep to actually take place.
While you may not be able to ensure no more stains on the rug, or marks on the wall, you can control some things {thank goodness, right?!}. You see, there are these things called blinds or drapes or window coverings, all of which would work much better than the current setup we have got going on:
I know it may be hard to tell but we have a sheet that is being used as our blinds. We are lucky enough to have double glazed windows (after searching long and hard for the right Double glazing manufacturers and suppliers) which really helps with keeping the warmth in. With just a sheet covering the window, it would be easy to feel a breeze otherwise.
What else is that you see? Tin foil. Yep, tin foil – like they use in the breaking bad type houses. Oh, and an old maroon fitted sheet- because that obviously goes with the color scheme we have going on. In the future, we’ll be looking more into things like motorised window blinds, but for now, this is the set up we have to work with. Together, these things totally block out the sun, because this sweet child of ours doesn’t think sleep is necessary if the sun if up, I however disagree strongly! And I know you are thinking “Sure this fine for a temporary fix” but people its been over 1.5 years!! Time for an update. Time to make the window a focal point, an addition to the decor and not an eye sore that makes you think – is that the sheet for the guest bed?!
So in an effort to make his once perfect room a little bit nicer than it has been looking lately, we are finally going to install some Bali Blinds. Here are some inspiration images on how we want the room to feel.
We want the room to stay sophisticated for a kids room, and maintain that classic look. Here are some of our current faves from Bali Blinds right now that we think would work with our little man’s room:
Pleated Shades, Wood Blinds, Natural Shades, Roman Shades
We want a window covering that fits inside the window frame so that it shows off all the trim work that J did. We want to have a setup that brings some more color and texture into the room but also is thick enough to keep out the dreaded Phoenix sun.
I can’t wait to get some blinds up and make it a little less like we stole a sheet off a bed and hung it on the window! My friend told me to check out a website like shuttercraft-devon.co.uk/ so I can see which style of blinds I like. There are so many to choose from though!! And a bed, yes a bed is needed soon-were just waiting to paint the rad one we found. This kid’s room will be back to perfection in no time (well lets just say nearish perfectionish)! And plus we need to put that sheet back on the guest bed 🙂 We’d secretly love to get one of the most realistic star projectors too but all in good time.
