Our cute little friends that we got last Christmas have gone through quite the transformation over the year. They started out simple and cute like this:
Last year we had them in the dining room, which is now where the world map {that we adore} lives
We then moved the pals {here} in to the living room and added the Ikea frame and fabric behind them. And thats when all the real fun started:
We realized that we could totally customize the frames for the seasons, and here is the fall look:
Now I initially thought I would grab some Christmas fabric and go to town to switch it out for the holidays, but then it rained for two days, and I remembered how cheap I am. Those two things combined made me want to work with what we already had at home. I actually really like the look of the burlap, even with fall being over, so I knew I wanted to adapt it for Christmas.
I added 9 red ball ornaments to each antler. Most people wouldn’t have nearly 30 extra ball ornaments laying around, but when you get most of your Christmas decor from estate sales..you do! Estate sales are the best places to get holiday items. Not only do you find super unique pieces, but everything typically was made with much better quality back then, so everything still looks awesome- AND its all cheap! Our outside lights are all from estate sales, along with a ton of our favorite items inside! Love it!
This is the set up I sent J. I usually text him any ideas I get that i’m a little unsure of. He usually tells me i’m crazy, but he actually liked this one:) Score!
To make the ornaments work I simply removed the silver top from each ornament and hot glued the ornaments in a rotating pattern around the antler. I glued the ornament to the burlap, NOT the antler itself!
I love how the new look our friends got! And the best part is I will be able to simply remove this back and use it again next year for Christmas! So tell me, are you using ornaments in a non-traditional way?
I love that you are not only thinking frugally in your holiday decorating, but showing us how you re-purposed decor to make it holiday! Not all of us have the room (not to mention the $$) to store massive totes of holiday decoration. It is great to think of how to use what we have up all year long, festively!
So glad you ladies like them! And yes, it totally looks like they are just wearing an awesome red necklace! love it! Now get out there and find stuff that you already have around and put it to use!
