J and I got a really exciting package in the mail yesterday! About six months ago I saw my first tripod lamp. Ever since then, I knew I was going to eventually DIY one. Unfortunately, I didn’t tell J this plan of mine, and he passed up an incredible tripod for only $15 at an auction. When he got home that night and showed me all that he got, he at the end mentioned that there was a cool tripod at the auction. I almost screamed when he told he didn’t get it because we are ‘trying to be good and only buy things that we know we will have a use for’. Once he found out I did have a project in mind, he was totally bummed!
We ended up getting one after all, off of eBay. Definitely not $15, but altogether it came out to be $65 {with shipping}.
We are going to turn this into a lamp ASAP. Be sure to check back soon to see the tutorial. Have any of your ever done this project before, or own one from the store already? We are super excited to get started on this!

Oh, I love this project! Can’t wait to see the end result. And I have to admit that I am bummed about the $15 tripod, but actually this one looks amazing, so c’est la vie! xoxo

What a fun piece to transform. So funny how Hubs didn’t know to keep an eye out. I’ve trained my own Hubs to come home with anything he even remotely thinks I can use. I can always sell or toss it if not.
Looking forward to the final product.

Sweet!! I’m actually getting ready to start my own, I’ve been drooling over them in pottery barn for a while now. The $295ish price tag makes me choke. I picked mine up for about $5 it’s not as architecturally cool as yours but it will do…can’t wait to see the finished product 🙂

It is a really, really striking and sturdy looking tripod and when the lamp is complete I know it will look high end! I am sure the tripod HAS to be much better looking than the $15 one!

Yes! I did one of those a while back. Of course, I found the perfect drum lamp shade to go on it now instead of the awkward one that was one it, so now I love it even more. I bought my tripod at the flea market at merchant square antique mall in Chandler. I’ve seen them there a couple times after I bought them too. Here’s my link.

Wow, that’s a really sweet looking tripod! Makes me want to start looking around for antiques that I could make “DIY” projects with!
