Its amazing what can happen in a short amount of time. J had a half day on Monday because of the holiday, so when we got home he went straight to work on building out the wall for our living room. This is where the gas fireplace is going, and there will be cabinets on the sides. Here are a few progression shots:

He mastered the art of building walls from all the trips he took down to Mexico with ASU Younglife. Who would have thought that all these years later, that knowledge would have come in handy! How brilliant is that all those pieces of knowledge put to use, obviously there is a lot that goes into building anything, as long as you have the right Rebar shape codes and other informative resources at your disposal then you’ll make a solid job of it. We’ll know in due time if J has truly mastered that art.
I seriously cannot wait for this part of the home to be finished. In fact, I can’t wait for the whole home to be finished. There is just something about living on a construction site that I really don’t like. But these things take time. After all, I don’t want it to be rushed. You hear of people all the time who don’t enlist the help of somewhere like this private utility locating service to find that they have experienced a wide array of issues with the rest of the construction processes. I’m already stressed enough. I don’t think I could deal with problems that could hinder the progression of our project.
But it is what it is. I’m very appreciative that J can work when he is home. Not many other husbands do this, so I’m very grateful to have my own personal contractor (he would hate me for saying this). I think he has enough experience to do this work by himself, but like I’ve told him in the past, there is never any shame in hiring professional help if he needs it. See, all this talk about our home construction is making me excited for when the whole project has been completed.
To have the fire burning during the holiday season, with the mantle decorated, and us all snuggled on the couch in there. I just hope it turns out as dreamy as I envision it to be. I have every hope that it will look better than I ever could have imagined.
Here’s to wishing that everyday J got a 1/2 day…
