Hi friends! We are nearing the end of the kitchen makeover, can’t you feel it?! There are only a handful of things left to finish, some big, some small. One thing that we just can’t seem to agree/decide/smile at eachother while talking about said thing..the paint color.
There is some serious debate going on here. For a little while we actually agreed that we would both be happy with white. Plain ol’ white. But then we realized that there would be a small area on one wall where the entire wall would be white{its the slender post on the left hand side of the photo}. With some trim, but still solid white. Nope, not happening folks. Now my seerriiouuss vote is for it to be a soft gray. Almost the same gray as the grout color on the brick wall. Enough difference from white to be noticeable, but not so much that there is an apparent color in the room {we feel like the brick is enough}.
J, well hes not ‘feeling’ the gray. Lame, right?! Or maybe you agree with him, sure do hope not though if you want to remain friends. Jusstt kidding, kinda sorta;) I had a suggestion from someone else to go with a light grayish blue. Adding a little more color, but definitely not an obvious blue.
Heres where the paint will go:
X marks the spots. I also very cleverly tried to make the X’s somewhat similar to the color options. Totally not clever, but hey a girl can only do so much in the free version of Picnik.
So, whats your opinon here? Gray, blue-gray, or something entirely different? Be honest, but also be smart if wanting to continue this friendship…
🙂
PS- In case your wondering the orange flyer we have on the fridge is not a color sample, its merely a coupon to the ever classy Filibertos. It makes me laugh though, because we never eat there, but for some strange reason I felt the need to hold on to this coupon. I guess the marketing people at Filibertos deserve a raise!

Just buy the grey paint & tell your husband ‘happy wife, happy life’. Or; go with grey just to see if he can feel it, & then if he really really can’t, go with another colour. He might be sick of painting by then, finges crossed!

A super soft grey sounds beautiful. I also think a SUPER SUPER soft yellow could look nice with the brick.

I personally like the grey over the blue… but a soft yellow could also look good. Paint it and if either one doesn’t like it, you can always repaint. It’s a small area and won’t take long at all 🙂

you could do a warm grey or a grey with a slight tinge of blue. What other color accents are you using in the kitchen? Maybe you can tie in some of hubby’s color suggestions with those. Greys are neutral and go with anything. Good luck in your choice…your kitchen looks great so far and I can’t wait to see the finished photos!

Get little sample cans of the gray’s and the blue’s. I’m not sure when you have to decide but let the paint stay there for a few days and see what grows on you! That’s what Tum and I had to do!

Yeppers, loving gray with white these days, can pop w/some accessories, too

I have to go with gray…but I’m a gray addict. My entire house would be painted gray and turquoise if I had the choice.

I like the gray. Very pretty. Tell the hubs that you’ll paint the walls your choice of color but leave it totally open to change if he doesn’t feel it after it goes up. Most likely he won’t want to change it once it’s up.

Follow your gut–go with gray. You can always bring more color in with the accessories. Hope you’ve brushed up on your persuasion skills!

i gravitate towards cooler tones so i think a gray tone would be lovely in your kitchen. i cannot say enough about “balanced beige” from sherwin williams!!! it’s not light (almost white) gray but it is the perrrrrfect oatmeal color (light brown with gray undertones so it would compliment the grout and your laundry room stripes….when you get to that, of course!) my husband and i had a two story den that shared a wall with a two story foyer and used this color. then we moved and renovated a house and used this color pretty much throughout the entire main floor, including the kitchen. guests often compliment the color and several friends have already used it in their own homes….it’s a magical color
