Our High Gloss Black Front Door

One of the funny things about having a blog is the timeline that projects get written about. You see, I painted our front door {interior} a beautiful Sherwin Williams high gloss black about two months ago. I didn’t want to show the door until the whole room’s wainscoting and paint was finished, which wasn’t until Thanksgiving. I forgot until the other day that I still hadn’t even shown you it at all…two months later! Whoops!! It was a big project so I wanted to show it in its entirety for everyone to see.

Now I know that some people don’t want to go through the hassle of painting their door and will actually look to have it replaced as they want a completely different style and color, this is where help like Milwaukee Entry Door Installation Services as well as others within the immediate area, are made available so that people get the door of their dreams. I got the door and hallway of my dreams… it just took a bit longer than normal to show it! Now all I can pray for is that nothing bad ever happens to this beautiful door of ours, and of course, our home! You know how you fear something bad will happen to the good things in your life? Just like that – I have somewhat irrational fears as well! Like what if there is a break-in and they break down the lock and a part of this magnificent door? Sure, I might be able to get emergency help (from professionals like the locksmith Grand Junction ones) fixing the lock, but if anything happened to that door, it would break my heart.

However, putting all those irrational fears aside for now, let us see our journey of this room!

And now, with the Sherwin Williams Olympus White paint on the walls, trim work finished, and front door painted, the room is worlds different:

So much better, right? I love the contrast of the black on the white and light grey. Also, with that small arch-shaped glass window on the top of the door, the room often gets lit. Arch shaped windows with bespoke designs are often used by architects working around the world. Nowadays, people tend to have a bespoke design on window types like single pane, double pane, and secondary glazing. You can also replace your existing windows with bespoke designed secondary glazing windows due to their various benefits. They can reduce dirt, dust, and loud noise that is coming from outside, can be considered an eco-friendly option and their double wooden frame can help in insulation of the house. You can search for a specific window installer like “Bespoke Secondary Glazing in London” for your nearby places. Even after all of these benefits, an ample amount of light might be considered as a criterion to choose one window. For that to happen, replacing windows could be one of the changes you want. Now don’t get me wrong, there are many things we wish were also different here, like moving the door to the centre of that wall with windows on both sides. If we do decide to do that I am going to need to get some Stylepark – Doorfittings by FSB or ones similar, because of how old the door is the fittings may be worn down. But things like that, that are in no way, shape, or form necessary, will just have to wait for the time being :). On the other hand, something that needs to change ASAP is painting the exterior of the front door, and covering up all the burnt orange paint! Do you see the tiny strip of it here below?

Ya, we’re not fans of it. I prefer to look at my door and not think Halloween;)
But for now, we are happy. The SW paint was a dream to work with as usual, even with it being high gloss {which has a history of being a pain to look even and not streaky}. The black adds a great character to the room which we love, do you?

    I was tempted to interrupt your husband’s lunch at Four Peaks yesterday and tell him I’m a huge fan of his work on your blog, but decided to spare him the embarrassment. He was busy with your adorable son anyway. In fact I told my son (who has twin boys your son’s age) to look how cute that little boy was dressed, only to realize he was a fellow bloggers son. Small world! 🙂

    I love the room!! Am thinking seriously about black doors. Do you have any tips for working with the high gloss paint? Did you find a source for that? I painted the front door on our last house a bright yellow semi-gloss and it was rather difficult. I used a foam roller and applied umpteen million coats but continued to get an orange-peel texture. I think I needed to thin it down more maybe.

    Hi there, we love what you’ve done, so we’re copying you! We’re using Olympus White and Extra White. One question, though, is which sheen to use for the white part of the wall. Should we use Satin like the top part of the wall, or Semi-Gloss like the trim?
