Mirror Makeover

…was a big,fat,ugly,flop {at least for our home}

This past weekend J and I decided to do a “quick” fun project, a little mirror makeover. While I was at work J went to Goodwill and snatched up a perfect mirror {for $5.99}. We had seen a post on Flamingo Toes on how to make an old mirror into a beautiful Anthropolgie knock-off. Now as i’ve mentioned before, I love Anthropologie, so anytime I see a DIY project for them, i’m all for it.

We had all the supplies we needed:

We had some cute puppies there to assist:

And so it began.
A project that we thought would take an hour maxxxxx…well, all in all, was no fun. The tutorial said that you could spray the Easy Off on, leave it for around 5 minutes, and the silvering from the mirror should come right off. Haha. I have to admit, the post did say that some mirrors are more stubborn than others, but holy crap. We sprayed the first set of “holes” and 5 min. later wiped it off to see no change. We did it again and left it for 30 min. No change. Did it again, left it for about an hour, barely any silvering coming off. The last two times we did it, we left it for about 3-4 hours each, and we scrubbed with all our might in between {haha I should say J, because,lets be honest, I would scrub for about 2 min. and be tired- hard work people, hard work}
Hot hubby working hard-serious-he was sweating and everything!

The end result- 9 hours {on and off} of work, 4 small holes, fabric that we loved at the store, but do not like on the mirror, especially in our living room, and a new present for Katie {our little sister}!

For any of you that want to try it at home, because really it could be an amazing project, just know that you might get lucky with an easy mirror, or you might get a mirror like ours!
Hey, you cant love every project you do, right?

<3,
Adri

    Thanks Angy! Jess, I think we will try it again, but this time just use a mirror that has a great frame to it and only do the fabric behind the mirror showing through. I think the whole frame being lined with the fabric was just too much!
