You guys, we did something this year I never thought we would do…we got a fake Christmas tree! Both Jeremy and I grew up with a fake tree, and when we were dating we made it a tradition to buy my family a real tree every year. We continued that tradition on in our own home for the last 7 years, but not this year. We wanted to switch it up, and see what all the fuss was about, and Home Decorators helped sponsor this post to make that happen.
We are used to heading to a tree lot and freezing our way through picking out a tree. This year, I sat on my couch, drank a glass of wine, and chose the prettiest one:) So far I was liking this change;) When it came to selecting the one I did, I wanted it to look the most realistic. I wanted the tree to be full, but not totally uniform. I fell in love with this tree. And today I wanted to share you the easy tips I did for getting the tree all decorated in a short time!
First off, from pulling the tree out of the box, to having it completely spread out and ready for decor was probably 30 minutes. HEllloo! Amazing! When you are setting up your tree, you are definitely required to be wearing jammies, and preferably drinking hot cocoa while listening to some good ol Frank Sinatra as well! At least those were my set-up rules!
Once the tree is all fluffed, I started in on the decorations.
-I find that it is easiest to start with your main garland for the tree. I got the adorable pom-pom garland on how I wanted it, then added a fun twist by using an advent calendar garland as a decoration. Most would think this has to be on a wall somewhere, but why not the tree? I love how it looks on the tree, and mixing it up like this!
After both garlands were up, I went on to the ornaments.
-I added the bubble gum ornaments {my big ornaments}, and then finished the tree off with the smallest ornaments and mini bottle brush trees. Most people use bottle brush trees more as decoration off the tree, but I love the fun little pops of color the brown and red brought! I kept stepping back as I was placing the ornaments and moving them a little bit, but overall just make sure to spread out fairly evenly.
For the ‘tree skirt’ I thought a little outside of the box this year. While there is nothing wrong with a traditional tree skirt, I ended up using a faux fur throw for my skirt. This way when Christmas is over I have an awesome throw that can be used! All about that multi-functioning item! And besides, how freaking luxurious is this?
I love how it all came together. Keeping it simple with only really using red and white made the tree look classic to me, but still fun with the silly little twists of using the advent calendar and trees. We found this really silly but fun Christmas tree decor that’s becoming more popular nowadays, where the tree is made to look like a bushy-bearded gnome or goblin and they’re called Gonk trees. A quick search revealed to me that DIY Gonk Christmas Trees are now a thing! Although I had so much fun decorating my little tree this time, maybe we can consider doing this for the next holidays. It looked very Narnia-like to me, and can definitely bring all the Christmas feels along!!
We also added a little mini tree on our Miners Cart coffee table, in hopes of getting Winston to only be obsessed with the mini one and leave the beautiful big one alone. So far we are successful, minus one red ball;) I added a cute wood slice garland to the tree to bring some rustic to it, and wrapped a scarf around the base to hide the battery holder! I love using things from around the house that are so random in theory, but totally work! And the cute Love and Peace pillows even got a little action with scarves:)
You all know I am a lover of mixing metals, so it should be no surprise that when I saw these Pinecone Finials I couldn’t pass them up! I absolutely love these up on the mantel we DIYed with our DIY stockings!
Now that its all set up, I just have two things left to do. One, get the rest of the gifts wrapped! I have three done, and thats it. But thats ok- because I love this burlap ribbon, and Winston will most likely destroy some gifts that I put down.
And finally, I need to put this mistletoe to use;)
