I swear this will be the last post that goes into so much detail of demo…probably:)
One of the biggest projects the guys did that day {again I cant say thank you enough to them!} was getting the flooring up and out. This was supposed to be a fairly simple process, considering J and some of the same guys had done it before when we removed the tile from dining room and living room.
Oh how wrong we were..oh man.
The most important part to getting up tile fast and easy in a DIY fashion is to rent a Demonlition Hammer. Its $60 a day to rent, and worth every penny. Below is the DH in use. Any one else think a man using tools is hot even when they have goofy goggles, and ugly shorts (no) pants (no) “hammer pants” (no) shorts-pants combo (yes) on?! haha ok, maybe its just me:)
This bad boy just plows through the tile, cement, everything! The big hurdle we ran into is there was some ravishing laminate under the tile.
Why, oh why, did the previous owners of this house have a thing for putting floors on top of floors on top of floors {remember, here in the bathroom-there were THREE layers}. So what could have been a 2 hour project, turned into J working on his own well past 8pm that night. Poor guy.
Go Josh, go! |
Up next, the plans for the kitchen. Y’all finally will get to see our vision for it all:):)

Oh I know the feeling of the whole ‘floors on top of floors on top of floors’ lol.
We just demo’d our master bath shower last weekend and there was another tile floor right under the top tile, with about 7 layers of cement board!
Things that make you go hmmmmm.

Holy crap! That’s crazy! I so can’t wait to see what this looks like finished 🙂 I would be terrified to see my floors look like that lol.

Wow, I had no idea how much was done that day!

We rented a demolition hammer to tear up tile (and a big layer of concrete and wire mesh that was hiding beneath!) in our bathroom. BEST tool ever!! 🙂 Loving seeing another house being demoed- crazy living in the chaos, isn’t it?!

Oh my gosh….we started our kitchen remodel on Monday. You didn’t mention the dust every where! I can’t believe the mess! We too have 3 floors! Who are these fools who go over floors without tearing them up? Good luck on your job. Ours is smaller.
Happy New Year!

What did you guys use to bust out your tile? And was it something that anyone could do? We have an entire house full of it, and I would LOVE to rip it all out and put wood floors in. I don’t want to pay for labor AND tear out.
