You guys know how much we love a great thrift store find, and garage sale finds even better. This week J and I came across some great scores, so great that I just have to show you.
We found the two incredible trays at a garage sale, one with a handle, one without. Not perfectly sure as to what we are going to do with them, but for now they make perfect record holders and decor. The mirror I found at Savers for $8, and I love it – it looks not too dissimilar to the beautiful French mirrors from places like WestMirrors.com, so I definitely feel like it was a good purchase! I feel like it is the little sister to this mirror already in our home {from an estate sale}:
I love the details on this mirror, even the imperfections.
A lady at this garage sale saw J leaving with these trays, chased him down and begged to be able to buy them from him. Normally, if we buy something that we think is cool but not necessary for us, we would have just sold it. Something about these trays though is so great. They have such character, and will be able to be used in a million ways. Hung on a wall to be used as a shelf, on a table as an actual- tray- who woulda thought!? They are staying with us for sure, or at least until we change out minds about them, which judging by how long everything else lasts in our home, but not be too long;)

So have you guys been finding some great pieces out there lately? Do you prefer garage sales or thrift stores? Please tell me that y’all aren’t afraid of the smelly thrift stores, because that would just be sad. This weekend you should go get smelly and find some treasures!

Awesome finds. I love the charachter of the trays. I love thrift stores, but always find garage sales have better prices. It’s luck.

I love a good thrift store or garage sale find! My parents go to garage sales all the time and I think it just rubbed off and now I like to see what I can find! You can easily talk someone down at the garage sale- heck sometimes they are just hoping to get rid of everything and will give it away for free!

Garage sale vs Thrift stores..hmm. Good question! I think they are both vital to feed our addictions to good deals and awesome finds!
Love the trays!

So jealous! I love the mirror. It is beautiful. I am in the midst of thinking up a beautiful,off-the-beaten-path big girl room for my daughter, and that would be a perfect addition to the look I am going for! Great find!

J- I totally agree about the better prices! Just stinks that to get the good stuff at sales you usually have to be there so freaking early!
Britt- I grew up that way too:):) Are you getting anything for your wedding from sales? Glad life is great for you:)
Cassie- agreed! Both are essential for our addictions;)
Ashley- I wish we had some good markets here in AZ. Granted im with you on how you dont want to go cuz its brutal out, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!
Brooke- So fun!! Just keep checking out your thrift stores, garage sales, and estate sales. Youll find something amazing soon!

Until I started reading design blogs, I wouldn’t step foot in a thrift store other than to drop off donations, and I didn’t think garage sales were worth my time. I didn’t believe that someone else’s trash could be my treasure. But now that I know the power of transformations, I’m all about it. Well, except I don’t get up early enough to get the good stuff at yard sales, so I usually skip those unless I happen by one operating on a Friday!

Holy goodness. Just found your blog tonight and the shot in this post of your dining room into your kitchen is breath-taking! The white against the wood floors with the brick! Oh be still my heart! And, yes… thrift stores, yard sales… I’ll take them all! I went to a 3 floor thrift store yesterday for the first time and was in heaven!
