Dream Book Design

Tis the season to plant

If it were up to me, my whole backyard would be one big garden…but it’s not. Maybe sometime in the future it will be, after all I love our planet too, if you’ve been planting as much as you can in your garden, just know that you made a difference, even if it’s just the slightest effort! I would love to do my part for the planet…

However, the rulers of the backyard are the dogs, and there is no way they would leave anything alone ๐Ÿ™ So what I can do instead, is have a section of synthetic grass install where they can run around and play without stressing me out, and plant in containers or maybe in my very own big planter. If you haven’t noticed yet, I am a pretty big fan of my hubby- and here’s yet another reason why. Last weekend when I was gone with girlfriends in Cali he texted me saying “What color would you like your custom planter to be?” Ummm WHaT?!
I had no idea he was planning on doing this. J is unbelievably handy (considering we remodeled almost our whole house ourselves-all his doing, I was just there to help) so he went out and got the supplies. Normally, it would be so difficult to work in the yard, the mosquitoes would eat you alive, especially during the evening. My hubby was quite well-planned, I should say. He first got rid of the insects using something like a natural mosquito control and then, built his wifey her dream planter. To make it even better he painted it the same color as our front door-adorable!

Today we took on the task of filling it and planting. Since Phoenix is already getting so hot we were limited to what flowers can withstand the heat. We got 6 buckets of verbena and 4 of vinca. So excited for these to grow bigger and have the beautiful flowers in our front yard, and at the same time enjoy them from the living room too:)

We also have a pot of flowers growing from the bulbs by the front door …so excited to finally see them bloom!

One thing I am most excited about is the tangelo tree my hubby planted today! My parents got it for us as an anniversary gift (2yrs) because I always steal theirs when i’m at their house. I grew up having two tangelo trees in the backyard and cant seem to ever be satisfied from any juice/fruit from the grocery store- simply nothing compares.

Finally, the herbs! I have basil, rosemary, cilantro, oregano, and parsley growing! I use fresh herbs for so many dishes and it is unbelievable how expensive fresh organic herbs are at the grocery store. I’ve already used the cilantro and basil for a few dishes, and can’t wait to use them all:)
(The puppies smelling the herbs!)

I’ll leave y’all with a couple of adorable pictures of Boomer today..we love this little guy

What kind of flowers/veggies are you all growing???

Can your hubby come over and teach mine to be handy? My Dad is the really handy one over at our place (he lives down the block which rocks because he builds/fixes everything for me). The hubs–not so much. So that leaves me. I semi-take up after my dad. So this weekend I plowed on over to Home Depot and planted tomatoes, garlic, basil, rosemary, oregano, sage, lavender, Cilantro, roses and replanted a bunch of stuff I had been aquiring. I love the planter idea though. And I have just the place for it! Thanks for the inspiration!!
