If you know me at all, you know I love me some doughnuts. As in, I eat doughnuts {plural} multiple times a week…every week. Yeah, yeah, I know- they are not the most healthy thing in the world. But sometimes you just have to let it go and enjoy something really delicious, and so I do, weekly. I could argue my point of there being nothing better in the world than a fresh hot doughnut and a glass of cold milk. Ok, I am officially drooling like freaking Homer Simpson over here just thinking about it all.
With Valentines Day being just two days away, whats better than turning a yummy treat in to a yummy gift for those you love. My talented baker Kylie {who owns Modern Manor} did just that, and I was a lucky recipient of a box. Lucky girl, I know. Here is a little rundown of how she made these adorable, and delicious mini-doughnuts:
There were two different types of batter used, one basic, and one chocolate cake. For the glazes there was a vanilla bean and a chocolate {key word glaze-not frosting}.
The other two doughnuts are a delicious powdered sugar and a maple+cinnamon sugar coating. Again, droooll right?!
The process was super simple using the doughnut maker {similar one here}. Whip up the batter real quick using this recipe for the basic, and this for the chocolate cake {always swapping out butter for oil}:
Once your batter is all set, time to pour it in the doughnut maker. This thing cooks perfect doughnuts in under 5 minutes! I highly recommend taking on right out, dipping it in some sort of glaze or sugary butter and popping it in your mouth.
Once all of your doughnuts are cooked up, its time to get creative with the decorating! Looking for a great chocolate glaze recipe? Look no further than here. A super simple vanilla bean glaze? Simply mix 1cup powdered sugar, 2 tsp. cream 1 tsp. vanilla bean paste!
To keep things easy and as mess free as possible, lay the doughnuts out on cooling racks as you glaze them. For the powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar ones, rub them lightly in butter and then toss in a bag with the toppings.
These doughnuts turned out so cute, and are so versatile to package them up. Wrap them with some cute paper, stack them up between paper straws in a box, or make too cute for words doughnut pops.
Are you the type to make your hunny a treat, or do you buy them something? I know the saying is ‘food is the way to a mans heart’, but it is also the way to my heart;) Thanks Kye for sharing your cuteness today.
