West Elm Rug

I just realized that I come to y’all for advice on rugs often, very often! Maybe its because rugs are so expensive {usually} and we always want to be sure of our purchase, or maybe just because I love getting your guys’ input on life:) Last week a beautiful rug showed up at our doorstep and I was so excited because I had almost forgotten about it. We had ordered it from West Elm months and months ago and it was on backorder for ever, but we finally got it!

I think the colors, the texture, the pattern, everything, is just so perfect. The size however, not so much. It is just a littleΒ bit too small. We got a 3×5, but the next biggest if a 5×8, which I think is too big. It also doesn’t help that the 3×5 was only $79, when the 5×8 is $199! Quite the difference.

So what would you do? If you adored the rug, but thought it was a little too small..would you keep it? Let me hear it!

Also, don’t forget to enter the giveaway Junk In The Trunk Trio is doing for a free can of milk paint, and if you live in AZ, also a 20 minute early entrance to their Vintage Market this Saturday!

Hmm. That is tough. I too like the pattern of the rug but understand what you mean. I think overall it would look a little more put together with a larger sized rug. Sorry! Love the rug…keep it! But, maybe find another place or configuration for it because you cant’t really see it under that awesome table.

i do LOVE the rug… that pop of yellow really does look perfect in your space… but also think it is far too small for the space. i think 5×8 would actually be perfect.

So sorry to say, but the rug is too small… buy something else, like a jute rug that’s inexpensive & hang your beauty on the brick wall. πŸ™‚

If I loved the rug, I’d buy the bigger one. If I knew I loved it, then I would make it fit the space exactly. Because more than likely, I’d keep it around for a LONG WHILE! Looks great. LOVE West Elm, but they are horrible as far as speed and customer service. Don’t you think?

I agree with the first comment who said to layer it. It’s actually what I was going to say, but I saw she had already said it. I was thinking it could be layered with a sisal rug since they’re so inexpensive and it add nice texture, but if you don’t want that look then definitely but the bigger one.

Do you think a 4×6 rug would be just right? Ballard Designs has a lot in this size, or just search for 4×6. I agree that one seems too small, but it is pretty!

I ordered that same rug several months ago and JUST got it too!!!! Mine is the 5×8… and size does make a difference, I think.
I think the 5×8 version would be best for your space as well… maybe you can reuse that rug elsewhere? Or exchange it for the larger size? (I’m not sure how easy that would be.) Good luck!!!

The scale is a little off. But the rug is great- would it work in another area of the house? Or does it come in a bigger size? xo

    Keep It!
I don’t think its too small. It accents the piece over it.

I think this rug is too cute to hide most of it under the table. I vote for larger.

Loving the input guys!!!!! Keep it up! We are currently thinking that maybe we will just bite the bullet and buy the larger size, because we do agree that it is too pretty of a rug to barely be able to see it. Thanks again. And if you are over here from the Blog Hop! HI! Welcome! Thanks for coming, and ill be sure to check out your blog!

What about trying another neutral rug (maybe jute?) underneath it to create sort of a border around it? If you had one around somewhere, it might be something to try before you buy the bigger size. But I agree, that the rug by itself is too small for that area.

I think the table overwhelms it and looks a little silly – but, I love the rug! Is there somewhere else you can put it?

  20. Erin R. says

    Layer it!
Grab a natural fiber rug and put it under the smaller rug.

What if you bought another 3×5 rug from West Elm, and placed them side by side, it looks like the patten would work, and it is still cheaper then th larger size if you do it that way. (and bigger as well!) The make a rug tape, so you can tape them to eachother on the back, so the seam won’t be as noticable.

I LOVE THE RUG! One of my most favorite designers says “GO BIG OR GO HOME” Go all out, get the rug in the 5×8, it will really make such a statement in that room!

Wow…I love the rug and that table! What about taking it to a rug maker and having them add a border to it up to the size you want? Or you could do it yourself??? Hopping along! Please Follow back @ http://www.pargasjunkyard.wordpress.com and on facebook @ http://www.facebook.com/PargasJunkyard

I LOVE IT! But yes it is small and too small for that large table. I would find a different place for it. Bathroom, laundry room???

I LOVE IT. It is small and yes it is too small for that large table. Maybe find a new place for it – bathroom, laundry room, kitchen under sink?

Layer it. There are no rules anywhere that state you can only have one rug. Just get a cheaper 4×6 gray jute rug or something to put underneath it and see how that works. That’s what IKEA’s cheap rugs are for. πŸ™‚ That’s my vote. I think that rug is awesome and perfect for the space so just put something with a bit more presence underneath. πŸ™‚

I think you should return it and do the 5X8 rug. I think it would look really nice!

I agree with Danielle M. — it’s a great rug and it would be cheaper to just buy a second one and put them side by side! Best part- it would only be 5′ by 6′.
