We have officially become a normal blogger, we put up a gallery wall! I am a huge lover of photos, and actually having them displayed for all to see is even better. We have this weird tendency to only put things on walls in one room at a time. Our family room walls..totally empty. It makes no sense at all that we have our dining room walls now finished, and the main room empty. Oh well! Here was the last empty wall space:
A friend of mine who is an art enthusiast suggested that I may find an art piece by searching websites that sell Contemporary Art Collection or something similar. The best way to decorate walls, according to her, is to adorn them with multiple types of artwork. Although the idea sounds intriguing, we decided to give it a shot in the future. This is the wall before anything went up:
At first glance, a gallery wall can look daunting to tackle. Once you step back, think for a sec, and go- it was really easy. Here are the steps:
- Measure out your wall space, and tape it off on the ground {or somewhere large enough}. Fumble around with the frames until you get a look you love:
- Cut out newspaper according to each frame. We simply laid each frame on the paper, cut out the size, and numbered. Numbering the frame and the paper was important, so that you don’t get them confused. We got the genius newspaper idea from YHL.
- Hang newspaper on the wall in the same formation that you did on the floor.
- Measure from the top of the frame to either the wire thats pulled all the way up, or hanging notch {thingie}
- Transfer the measurement to the newspaper going the same distance down on the paper. Then mark the center.
- Finally, hammer in nail..and voila.
For the painting part {that is if you’re like us and use frames only from thrift stores, resulting in all different colors} you can spray paint before or after arranging the frames.
Thats it folks! Easy as that. Come check back tomorrow to see the finished product {here}. It looks pretty rad if I do say so myself:)

Love this! Have a question for you…I have a wall that goes all the way up to my vaulted ceilings and wouldn’t want pictures that high….how do I decide the area for the pics or should I use a different wall…btw like I said love ur blog AND your house 🙂

Ahhhhh, love it! I did the same thing to my sister’s new house in Denver up her ascending stair cases. We used various framed pictures, art, and family heirlooms and gathered them in tight groupings on each wall. It turned out very bohemian and funky- just like my sister. I can’t wait to see how yours turns out!
Best,
Megan

I have a hallway wall (that’s visible from the living room) and I have been avoiding it like the plague. Sigh. I guess after this fab tutorial I have no excuse to avoid it. (No valid excuse, anyway.)
btw – you guys were my #1 pick for the room re-do. Bummer. 🙁

I think I like the non-spray painted look just as much as a spray painted look. Can’t wait to see the end result!

PPP- Thanks! We love the chairs, we got them at Modern Manor.
Ashley- In general, if there is a doorway you could use that as your guide for how high to go. If no doorway- you could send us a photo, and see if we can help!
Megan- Thanks! Thats so fun that you got to do that with her! I bet it looks amazing!!
V- O i hope you do!!! Thanks for voting for us..big bummer we didnt make it- but its ok! Youre so sweet!
Melissa- we did too, but it was just a little too much variation in an already busy room, ya know?!
Angy- thanks girl! YOU SHOULD DO IT!
