When J and I bought the house he immediately said “Yes, now we have enough room for a gold velvet couch”. Up to this point, I thought he had been kidding when saying he wanted one. He was in Vegas one weekend and said that he “saw a really sweet gold velvet couch”, and then always said he wanted one. At first, I was a little taken aback. Rather than igniting a passion for gambling and sites like Casino Martini Canada , he fell in love with a couch. Unless, of course, that was all he could remember from the weekend (it was Vegas, after all). Well sure enough, about two months after moving in, our friends Ryan and Kylie spotted one for us on Craigslist-and guess what, we got it. I personally wasn’t super excited about it, I mean I thought it was a cool couch, just not necessarily for us. J was SO happy…for about 20 minutes…
The couch went from perfect condition:
I know the quality is horrible here, but we had it for 20 min. in this condition, so its just an iPhone photo |
So heres what happened. We got it moved in, J did a little happy dance, and then I went to watch TV while he showered. When he came out he asked where Honey {our Puggle} was. I said, “hmm, no idea, thats not good”! Sure enough Honey was on the couch clawing and chewing her way through. She made it look like this:
Seriously, J was so MAD and so SAD. She did that much damage in less than 20 min. to a couch he had been wanting for so long! So that night we stitched it up to the best of our ability {which wasn’t very good at all} and now we just have a throw laying over it. Its so difficult though because the hole isn’t in a corner, its nearly dead center, so how awkward and noticeable is that?! Ugh!
What would you do in this situation? Attempt to fix it yourself? Have a professional patched up? Reupholster it all together? If this was a couch that was in the living room we for sure would have had it reupholstered, but since its in our reading room {off of our bedroom} it sits there sad and partially ugly!
As for Honey, we were so upset that night, but how can you stay mad for long when her face is too darn cute…

Oh my gosh that is such a funny story. I had to show my husband your dog – I don’t know if there is one cuter?!! What parents does it have?
I guess just stick to the cover for now, and when Honey is a little older/less chew crazy, get it re-upholstered.
You’ll laugh about this… in time…

You could always get a quote to have just the seat re-upholstered, or you could sew a slip cover for the entire sofa. If not, a throw will do for now!

Does the dog usually chew furniture? I would say that before you do anything else, get it cleaned! You never know what was/is in/on the couch. That could just be my paranoia talking! =)

Raine and Sage- she is a mix of pug/beagle. Super fun and super crazy pup! And we can kinda laugh about it now, but not fully yet;)
Victoria (hi sweet girl!) and Mary- honey usually doesnt chew anymore, so hopefully now we are in the clear! I should get it cleaned (you are not paranoid!! I think about the same thing!) but eventually prob. get it re-up!
