Dream Book Design

Designing The Dream Book Laundry Room

A little while back I talked about the initial thoughts for our laundry room. I had said in that post that I was bummed, yet content, with keeping our old {free from a friend} washer and dryer, especially since we had just finished the kitchen makeover a week before. It didn’t help matters that we had just needed to get a Greensboro washer repair to look at our washer after it stopped working because it really make us question how long it would last us! Well, guess what?! WE GOT FRONT LOADERS! Words cannot express how excited I am, and I haven’t even had them delivered yet! Heres how it all went down..

We were o.k. with keeping our current ones, really we were. Then my crazy brain of babies {no no, no babies currently, just in the future} went into overdrive and I started thinking about all the 1,000,000s of cloth diapers {which we are 100% going to use} we will have to wash. When I imagines myself having to do so many extra steps outside of the washer and dryer to make them work because ours doesn’t have the lovely options of ‘extra rinse’ ‘pre-wash’ or ‘sanitize’ I got sick to my stomach! We know we want to cloth diaper, and we {cough, cough} know that I am solely the one that will be handling the cleaning of them, therefor I got a bigger vote on getting new ones or not!

We started earnestly looking around for deals, reading reviews, and debating when it was time to pull the trigger, until last week- we did it! We found a smoking deal on the Samsung WF419AAW and DV419AGW front loaders. We had narrowed it down to wanting either LG, Samsung, or Bosch- based off of reviews online and reviews from friends. My brother and a girlfriend both have this exact same model and are in love with them, so that definitely helped! J happened to stop by Best Buy one day, and they were an open-box item for only $549 {washer} and $589 {gas dryer}. Originally the washer was $1099 and the dryer was $1149!! We also did some research and realized we could get a rebate from Southwest gas for $95. Hooray for deals! They are also white, which was really important to us!

Here are our new beauties:

WF419AAW/XAA - white
DV419AGW/XAA
We knew we were going to stack them so we opted out of getting pedestals, which also saved us significant cash!We cannot wait to get them in, and I cannot wait to have pretty, new, 898989 features, machines! We were so blessed with the ones we were given, but are super excited for these new bad boys! Any tips or advice or horror stories from front loader owners…?
Next week I will also be asking a question in which I need a lot of advice from moms on {again, DEFINITELY not preggers, just wanting to design the laundry room around what our future of having a family will look like}. All moms out there, be sure to check in! Love you guys, and for those that give positive feedback to this blog, seriously- thank you. You have no idea how much it means to us, especially on days where we get some not-so positve feedback.

<3,
Adri

Love love love my front loaders – congrats on the purchase of your own. I’m not too positive how your laundry room is set up but may i suggest putting the washer/dryer side by side then putting a countertop ontop. I did this in my laundry room and it has been the best thing I’ve ever done in my house. I’m not too sure how to add pics but keep an open mind about putting in countertop space. Love the blog!

We’ve had our front loaders for years and love them! They are stackable, or not, like yours. When we get another set, we’ll get the same thing. I’m short, and I love not having to dive into the washer to pull something out of the bottom. Congrats on an awesome deal!

We got the LG front loader for a smoking deal too and I totally love them! We stacked ours also and it has worked out really well and I am pretty short. Since we had heard horoor stories of mildew, we put a hook on the side of the washer to hold a little rag so we never forget to wipe the door gaskets on the washer each time. We also read you should leave the washer door open.

We love our Samsung models so far but definetly keep the door open if you can, helps to keep the washer from smelling. Also, we stacked ours for more space but pulling stuff out of the dryer without it toppling onto the floor can be quite a challenge sometimes (maybe just because I am short and try to grab too much at one time) Anways, congrats! They are beautiful!!!

Tide makes your towels get that mildewy smell in the front load washers for some reason. Lots of google research to discover that one. Make sure you leave the washer door open after use and clean that rubber liner often. Excited for your new fun. Lots of love.

OMG We just did the same thing not too long ago!!!

Congrats! You will love them! You’ll probably also be uber-surprised at how quiet they are!

I second the “leave the door open” thing. I also don’t “tag team” my laundry – ie when I finish a load, I wait a little while before putting in another one to hopefully avoid having to keep the door closed and get it more mildewy. not sure if it helps or not, but so far so good!

CONGRATS ON THE NEW WASHER/DRYER!! Laundry will never be the same ๐Ÿ™‚

I have 3 kids and could NOT do laundry as efficiently as I do without a bar in the room. Kids generate tons of laundry so when I get the clothes of the dryer they get hung right up and put on the bar. Also hanging on the bar I have a little garment bag for lost socks (which there will be tons of) and I just throw them right in there.

I can’t remember how I stumbled on ur blog, but I just moved from Phoenix and I love how you transformed the house to not look like PHX house! ๐Ÿ™‚

What a great deal! I hope to replace our washer/dryer in the near future when we’re ready to give the laundry room a makeover. I have heard to leave the door of front load washers open to dry. Looking forward to seeing your newly organized laundry space! ๐Ÿ™‚
