Ok friends, I need some serious help! I have had this sweet little blog now for awhile, and while I do love Blogger, I am wondering about making the switch over to WordPress {self-hosted, not the free version}. I have been reading articles that compare the two for days now, and I feel as though my head is spinning right off. There are plenty of articles out there online that go into the specifics of exactly what wordpress is and the ways in which it differs from its competitors. However, I still don’t have a concrete answer for which platform I want to go ahead and use for my blogging. Here’s where you come in.
IF you are a blogger and have switched from one to the other, please share your thoughts.
IF you are a blogger and have strong opinions on either platform, please share your thoughts. Of course, you can also lead me to other providers that you may have used too. As I have actually recently looked at this review of rocket.net hosting to see if it would be worth expanding my hosting options for various reasons such as load speeds, downtime, etc.
IF you are a non-blogger, tell me how much you like me.
Just kidding.
Really though, I would love any and all input you guys could have for me. Even if you say you don’t use either and have your own thing going on with Sydney servers or something. Also, having a hard time hammering out the details on price points for WordPress. Is the cost simply your host site, and possibly paying someone to help you transfer over from Blogger? Or are there more monthly, or even one time, fees that I am not seeing? Has anyone else had any experience in the financial aspect of switching websites? A friend of mine recommended that I try out this website cost calculator, so I might look into that.
Do you have a favorite hosting site? A favorite theme? Also, have any of your transferred your sites on your own, or with the help of an e-book? Or is that something I should truly leave to the pros? Am I going to be totally lost trying to figure out how to even post over there?! Is this really going to make a big difference in terms of bettering this blogs future to be worth it? Haha, sorry but these really are all my thoughts!
I know this post is super boring for those of you who don’t blog, but I need some help- and what better platform do I have!?
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help! And just so you have some faith in me that this blog isn’t just about me asking you for help- tomorrow I am writing up a full review on our Okite countertops. We have had them now for 4 months, so I feel like thats enough time for them to show their ‘true colors’. Can’t wait to share it with you tomorrow!

I moved from Posterous to a self-hosted WordPress blog back in April. I host at GoDaddy and there was a bit of a learning curve with getting the files set up right. In my experience, GoDaddy was a huge help (it was just included time consuming phone calls).
There a lots of tutorials out there for doing what you are thinking about doing. I think you would be fine.
I have a one time fee (yearly). No add-ons.
I’m still working on tweaking things (like the sidebar, project gallery, etc.). I’m a baby blogger, so everything doesn’t have to be perfect.
Hope this helps.

I am quite happy still on blogger…I have STILL not heard an argument for paying for hosting/Wordpress that convinces me to move :). I have another site that we are switching servers for…lining up hosting and it SUCKS…no way I would do that to myself again just to move from blogger to wp. …that is until someone makes a better case for switching…

I’ve used all different kinds of blogs over the years: weebly, wix, blogger and then settled on the free version of wordpress before finally converting to self-hosted wordpress. I was pretty nervous to make the move because it is intimidating, but found the easiest way possible by hosting through Bluehost. They have a direct connection to WordPress through their dashboard which makes it so much easier to connect your host to your site. WordPress even suggests using them for this very reason. I’ve also heard they have great support, but I have yet to have a problem so I can’t tell you first hand. I found a tutorial and it made the switch INCREDIBLY EASY. It took maybe 20 minutes tops. (See here: http://michaelhyatt.com/ez-wordpress-setup.html) Learning how to use WordPress may take some time but once you get it, you’ll love it.

I’m pondering this change myself and I think I’m going to take the leap. I’m looking at Square Space though because I really like their layout. I’m too cheap to pay someone so we’ll see what happens. You can see if I drown. 😉

I will come back and read more comments. I was contemplating making the change and worried about losing Google juice. There are ways to maintain it all. I even checked with contract help to assist in transferring all the content and maintain links etc. Eventually, I decided to work harder on making it work in Blogger. I think WordPress would be better, BUT, I need to have a really good reason to do all that work… like lots more traffic.

I am a blogger, and knew all along I was going to have to make the switch. It seriously brings knots to my stomach though. Blogger has been giving us problems and I hear WP is a lot easier to work with. I was told by a web designer to use wordpress.org Still haven’t decided which one I will use yet. I know the longer I put it off, the more difficult it will be. The stuff I stress about is all the pinterest pins we have out there, it will only be linked up to our blogger and won’t transfer over to WP. I’m interested in what you do!! I hope you post about it when you make your decision. AND I think you are awesome! I can’t wait till the next BLOGGER conference so we can hang out again!

I did have a blog in blogger to which I transferred to WordPress, with the help of the tutorials this was all done easily but the thing was that the traffic to my blog was gone.

I’m really happy with Blogger as of now. I’ve been playing around with WordPress for a while in case I do decide to move in the future but it seems too complicated! Some times, less is more and especially for someone like me who has trouble manoeuvring Blogger at points, WordPress seems like a no-go. But all the plug-ins do sound pretty cool! Especially the Easy Content Templates! I could really use that! 🙂

There are definitely a variety of particulars like that to take into consideration.
That is a nice point to bring up. I offer the ideas above
