If you have been reading this blog for any length of time you know a few things about me. 1-I am stupidly in love with my hubby and baby. 2-I write way funnier posts when I have already had a beer or glass of wine {wait, you didn’t know that? Well pretty much any time you think a post is decently funny…its usually a late night post with wine involved!}. 3- I have a problem with showing you guys a room reveal or a tutorial until everything is absolutely finished and perfect.
That third thing worked fairly well for me and this blog in our old home when most of the big projects were finished, and I just had one project at a time going. With the new home, its madness, with 20 projects going at once. This equals NO ROOM ever being finished in the near future. I think I need to start putting these projects in order of importance. There are certain things you can put to the back of the list such as painting the rooms and finding that last little bit of furniture to complete the look. However, things like changing the doors and windows and exchanging them for something like these better Denver replacement windows choices, as well as getting all the kitchen appliances we need to cook a meal are things that cannot wait and will need sorting. Whether I will actually make a list or not is a different story. There is just so much going on!
It will get done eventually, but at the minute, I am unable to put a specific time frame on each of these projects because it is near impossible. I think I am one of those people who get bored with one thing so they have to take a break from it for a bit. So of course, the longer this goes on, the more projects we have on the go. In fact, it won’t be long until we will be required to check this site out to see if looking into home improvement loans is something we should do because it may not be long until our finances decline due to the number of projects we are doing at once. In hindsight, I probably should’ve thought about this before, but this is a lesson to remember for the future though.
A friend said that one of her family members went through a ‘We Buy Houses‘ company for her home as she got the cash quickly for it and used that to help renovate her house as they were helped out with buying their current one through family, so that is certainly one way to have the finances ready for any renovation projects! We didn’t go for that, of course, but it is something to keep in mind in case we decide to move again.
With all that being said, here is Brays’ room, unfinished, but still rad. {Keep in mind we didn’t want to change much about it since we loved it so much in the old house, and he was really only in it for a few months before we moved!}
Here is what the room looked like when we got the home:
We removed the random door, that was sealed shut and lead to the playroom. Once that was gone, everything else was done by us. One of our friends suggested that we get help from companies like WARE DESIGN BUILD to design the playroom, but since I’m very much into it myself, I thought of consulting them some other time. And here is the after:
Some things that are different in this room compared to last are:
-No built-out reading nook closet ๐
-A ton of built in drawers with a beautiful wood top that we use for the changing table..love it!
-No more sunburst gold mirror, we figured there were already a ton of mirrors in the room
-We added a second rug since the space is larger, and lucked out because it was on clearance this time!
-No more campaigner dresser since we have all the built-ins. It is still being used in the house though, thank goodness!
There are some obvious things left to be done, like getting some sconces for the changing area. We are totally bummed because the original ones accidentally got thrown away during demo:(
We also are going to end up having to take out {at least for awhile} the tripod lamp from here. It is 100% not baby friendly, which sucks. It will go in office either forever, or at least till hes a safe age for it. We are also debating on changing out the hardware, but that will probably be awhile from now, since the original stuff works just fine.
The little man loves his new space. His favorite is looking at himself in the mirror and making faces while getting his diaper changed. He also loves to crawl as fast as he can in to the bathroom right outside his room. This boy loves his bathtub!

Loved it in the old house…SUPER love it in the new house!!! I can’t wait to see which sconces you pick for the changing area!! As for the hardware, what about just giving it a quick coat of “hammered metal” krylon spray paint? That way all you’re out is the cost of the paint and some elbow grease insead of replacing every. single. knob. Can’t wait to see the rest of the house. You always do beautiful work!

I LOVE it! I especially like how original it is! Very sophisticated, yet still playful. I love the board and batten, and your unique take on rug placement; it looks great with two of the same rather than one larger one. Hang in there with the flooring fiasco!

I’m not sure I can put my finger on it, but this room just feels like it was meant to be. I loved the old nursery, but this one seems more authentic. Absolutely stunning! Great job. I’m drooling over all of the trim!

Way back when, I described to my husband my dream nursery: navy walls with built-ins and board-and-batten; antique fixtures and DIY details. Then BAM! You make my vision come to fruition!
I simply LOVE it!

Came over to your beautiful blog via Apartment Therapy. I am now a follower! Quick question….I have the “gold” trim on sliding mirrored doors like yours. I’d like to update mine, perhaps in another finish. Any suggestions/advice?
