With the New Year coming up it always makes me think of Resolutions. Professional goals, personal goals, family goals, everything. One of the big things I am wanting to focus on this year is our family’s health goals. Now that Jeremy and I have our two sweet boys, we more than ever want to be as healthy as we can be. I am with the boys all day long every day, and I want to make sure that I am setting a good example for them always. Not only in how I treat others, but also how I treat myself.
Jeremy and I have gone through many phases of being more healthy than normal, and we’re going to be following these tips for staying healthy into later life. Heck we have even done two Whole30’s together. Now don’t get me wrong, we are pretty healthy in general. We both enjoy working out {for the most part!} and eating pretty clean. But one thing we have learned over time is that neither of us do that well when something is completely restricted from us. It makes us want those ‘off limit’ things that much more. I haven’t been able to have dairy now for 5 1/2 months {because of nursing Winston, and he is sensitive to it}..and guess what I think about almost every day? Cheese pizza. Chocolate Milkshakes. Grilled Cheeses.
So how am I going to make this years goals attainable? I am going to be realistic with them. And here they are:
-Workout 3x a week {gym, run outside, heck- even a long walk to the park can count}
-Eat REAL food. Don’t necessarily cut anything out {other than the dairy for Winston’s sake} but if we are craving something junky, do it in moderation.
-I also want to give some more health supplements a try. I know that a lot of my friends have found that introducing kratom into their diets has made a big difference to their energy levels so I think I am going to do some more research to find out whether kratom could be right for me. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence out there to suggest that kratom has several physical and mental health benefits so I am intrigued to see what I can discover about this fascinating herbal extract.
-Start each day with a glass of warm water with Young Livings Lemon essential oil {helps detox and PH balance the body, as well as gives you energy}
-Continue to use Young Living essential oils as the first line of defense for illness, and then modern medicine if needed later. I might even get around to trying what friends have told me they believe is the best CBD oil in the UK as a way of boosting my physical health but also to help me destress.
-Cut down on alcohol. Although I am not much of a drinker, I have been doing a lot of research into the harmful impact that alcohol has on the body. Alcohol is highly addictive and there is research to suggest that long-term alcohol abuse changes the chemical systems in the brain that control the ability to learn, remember, and to exert control over behavior. You can learn more about the similarities between alcohol addiction and brain diseases by taking a look at some of the resources on the Enterhealth website. You can also find plenty of helpful articles about getting help for alcohol addiction on their site including a summary of the benefits of rehabilitation and therapy.
-Go around the table at dinner each night and tell something you are grateful for from the day. I truly believe that part of being healthy is not just physically, but also mentally and spiritually.
One way that will make part of this process significantly easier is by having healthy snacks available and easily accessible. I know that some days we run in the house from the gym, and have to run back out within minutes. It always leaves me in a tough spot for food because I know I need something good, but don’t have much time. I have tried out a bunch of protein powders before, but recently was introduced to the Aloha brand. This stuff blew me away. Here are some amazing facts about it {and if you want to try it- you can get a free Trial of it while supplies last!}:
-Made with whole foods naturally rich in nutrients
-18 grams of PLANT based protein {super important for me, since its Dairy free!}
-Made with superfood ingredients
-No added chemical amino acids, vitamins, or minerals
-No ‘natural’ or artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, or fillers.
I whipped up an insanely delicious Chocolate protein shake in a minute. For my favorite shake this is what I include:
-1 frozen banana
-1 packet Aloha chocolate protein powder
-1 tsp. coconut oil
-2 cups Almond milk
I am really hoping that by having things like awesome protein shakes that I can make in a minute, realistic food and workout goals, and a positive and grateful outlook- I can keep up my resolutions for this New Year. After all, isn’t this guy worth it?
